4/27/2020 understanding your feelingsHello friends! I hope you all are doing well and staying safe at home! We've been home for 6 weeks now and you may be missing school, teachers, and friends. Luckily you get to see your teachers and friends through Zoom lessons. It's awesome that we can all stay in touch through technology! Sometimes we may feel sad because things are not the way we are used to, anxious because there's a yucky bug that is making some people not feel so well, and maybe even angry because you can't go out and participate in activities like you did before all of this happened. Sometimes it can be hard to understand exactly how you're feeling. The video below will help you sort through your feelings and understand them. Watch Sesame Street's "Name That Emotion" and have a chat with your parents or other trusted adult if you are having any trouble dealing with your feelings. 4/19/2020 things i can and can't controlHi Sweet Friends!! There are things in our lives that we can control and things we can't. It's harder to deal with the things we can't control because we feel helpless and we feel like we can't do anything about them. That's when we have to be strong and brave and make the choice to have a good attitude about the situation. For instance, right now we aren't able to go to school or visit friends and even some family members. We also can't go out and do some of the activities we're used to and it's out of our control. Even though you can't control these things, you can control how you respond. Are you doing your best with your online learning? Are you being kind to your brothers and sisters and trying to help out mom and dad when you can? These are just a few things that you can control that will make things easier for you and for your whole family. I would like for you to watch the following video and complete the activity below. Remember, if you need to talk to me about anything, ask mom or dad to send me and email and I will set up a Zoom meeting. Activity: Download and print the attached picture of a hand or get a piece of paper and trace your hand. Write one thing you feel you can control on the thumb and each of the fingers. Then write at least two things you feel you can't control in the blank space around the hand.
4/12/2020 When I grow up, i want to be...Hi friends! I hope you had an awesome spring break. For this week's lesson, we're talking about careers, or your future long term job. Have you thought about what you want to be or what you want to do when you grow up? Would you like to go to college, join the military, or maybe go straight to work after high school? Click the link below to listen to the story When I Grow Up by Al Yankovic. Then, click on the next video to hear a song about careers! There's also a fun coloring sheet below for you to print and color.
3/31/2020 remember the 7 Habits!Hi friends! I know the transition from school to home hasn't been an easy one. Learning from home and parents becoming your "teachers" has been a big adjustment for some of you. Just know that it may not be easy for your parents either and that's ok. It's new for all of us! There are things that we can do to make this change easier. We have to work together (Habit 6; Synergize), try to understand how your parents are feeling (Habit 5: Seek First to Understand) and make sure to finish your school work first (Habit 3: Begin With the End in Mind) and then take some time to play and take care of yourself after you finish your work online: (Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw). Click on the two links below to review the Habits and to hear a super cool Habits song. Also, please remember that everything will get better and go back to "normal". Try to stay positive and be kind to each other. Click on the link below to watch a special message from me and then watch the two videos on The Seven Habits. https://youtu.be/ENvkcoKCgso 3/24/2020 Counseling newsletterHello families! 3/23/2020 Lesson 2 - habit 7 sharpen the saw Hi friends! Before we began our digital learning at home, we were in the middle of our Habit 7 lesson: Sharpen the Saw. Since I didn't get the opportunity to teach this lesson to all of my classes, I wanted to make sure to post it online. In today's video, you will learn that to "Sharpen the Saw" means to have a healthy work and life balance. You should work, play, eat well, and rest to be healthy and balanced physically and mentally.
