9/7/2018 September counseling LessonsHi everyone! This month our students began a three-part lesson series on Growth Mindset. It is my favorite topic because it teaches students that hard work makes your brain stronger and smarter, teaches them to persevere, helps them to understand that it's ok to make mistakes as long as they learn from them.
Lesson 1 - What is a growth mindset? For lesson 1, the students and I talked about having a "bubble gum brain" and a "brick brain". You will very likely hear the students talking about this at home. A bubble gum brain represents a growth mindset. Bubble gum is flexible, stretchy, and can be shaped and molded, just like our mindset should be regarding learning and trying new things. A brick brain represents a fixed mindset and is rigid, inflexible, and unable to be shaped and molded. We discussed that people with growth mindsets never give up and keep trying even when things become difficult. People with fixed mindsets often quit very easily and give up on a task after becoming frustrated. |
