3/21/2020 Activity - Making calming bottlesHi guys! In Habit 7 we learned that you need to have a healthy work/life balance. Sometimes, we can feel a little stressed when things happen that are out of our control. We talked about some calming strategies and some of my classes were able to make calming bottles. Since I wasn't able to make it to all of the classes due to our move to online learning, I decided to make a video so we could make them together at home. If you make one, have an adult send me a picture of it. My email address is [email protected]. I can't wait to see them! https://cobbk12org-my.sharepoint.com/:v:/g/personal/dionna_stevens-doneghy_cobbk12_org/Ef_D52VSDNBDnT-Kvl1UTk0BRv-ptIxTBVh1JZyccrpLBg?e=5lbVZs 3/17/2020 Lesson 1 - How to deal with changeHello sweet friends! In January, we studied Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. In this Habit, students were taught to fully listen to others in order to understand the meaning of what they are trying to say, rather than jumping to conclusions. They learned to listen with not only their ears, but their hearts in order to make the other person feel heard and valued.
During February, students will explore Habit 6: Synergize. To synergize means to work together. Each person has strengths and weaknesses. When we synergize and utilize each others' strengths, we produce a more dynamic outcome and are more successful together than by ourselves. Together is better! 9/4/2019 September Counseling NewsHello parents! I am so excited to be working with your kindergarten and first grade students! This year, counseling lessons will be based primarily on The Seven Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey. This book encourages students to be responsible, to take initiative, to set goals, to work together, to get along with others, and many more important life skills. This month, we will begin our study of Habit 1: Be Proactive. The students will learn ways to be responsible and take charge of their own actions.
7/23/2019 Welcome Back!!!I hope you all had an awesome summer! I can't wait to see all of you at meet and greet! Let's have a great school year!
2/23/2019 march counselingDuring the month of March, K and 1 students will complete the final lessons in our social/emotional unit.. As a fun ending to this unit, they will make "calming bottles". These bottles consist of water, clear, non-toxic glue, and glitter/beads and are great for a quick break to cool down when students are feeling strong emotions. When shaken, the glitter and/or beads in the bottle slowly float to the bottom. Students will learn to take deep breaths as they watch the motion in the bottles.
2/1/2019 February counseling lessonsThis month, students in grades K and 1 will continue their social/emotional unit with a lesson on self-control. Students will read Even Superheroes Have Bad Days and discuss ways to control their behavior when they feel strong emotions. They will also receive their own take-home booklet containing coping strategies.
1/14/2019 January counseling lessonsThis month, K and 1 students will begin a social/emotional learning unit with lessons on self-control and coping skills. Our theme for this lesson is superheroes! We will be identifying and discussing how to show superhero behaviors in the classroom.
